Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 01/31
Flat and hard pretty much describes the trails. It turned out to be way busier around Frederic than I was expecting yesterday and riders seemed to be happy to accept what snow we do have. Not a flake of new snow yesterday or overnight and its a nice 26 degrees this morning. I heard sleds go by my house before 8 this morning so there are some die hards out there.
Big John and the crew from Point Place Power Sports rode in here yesterday in a good size group and they were having a good time
The Swamp had my favorite coneys on the menus this weekend. Also had a call this morning from a guy who had been riding down by houghton lake yesterday and ran into many side by sides on the trail and of course was almost hit by one coming around on his side of the trail. He just wanted me to alert people to be careful. Sleds are bad enough to come up against but the side bys are bigger.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A lot of good snowfall totals in the comments of this post. Looks like the Sault Ste. Marie area did the best with around 6 to 8 inches and 7 to 8 inches in the Newberry Area. A couple of inches in the Gaylord area. And then just rain and snow mixes elsewhere in Northern Lower Michigan with negligible accumulations. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#traversecity#petoskey #soo #straitsarea#newberryIf you got snow last night, we'd love for you to tell us how much you got! Please include a rough time of when your measurement was taken, how long the snow was falling, your locations, and if possible, a picture of a ruler in the snow. ... See MoreSee Less

UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> One week to go until the trails open…..fat chance of there being any snow , so my best guess is the wait will be on. To bad we dont have the problem they have in South Dakota where they have snow but trails dont open till the 15th of December. The best day of riding that I had last year was on November 28 when Big John and I got in a nice 60 mile ride after a nice dumping of snow that morning. Everyone always asks me what I think the season is going to be like and my standard answer is I will tell you in April. I need to get some time in at Sledheads and get the front room ready for the season as I tend to let it get a little messy during the summer when I am not open. I put the winter signage back up last week on a nice 60 degree day. I picked up trail permits this week too but I am not putting one on my sled till we have rideable snow. I did see both Kalkaska and Grayling groomers out doing trail maintenance in the past month or so. Thats about it for now. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord#grayling... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A clipper system will bring our first decent shot at accumulating snowfall for the eastern UP, where 3 to 6 inches…or even a little more in a few localized spots…could fall by Tuesday morning…with the worst conditions expected between 5 and 10pm. This system appears to be more straightforward than the previous one. Be careful and leave extra time for traveling as we are all trying to get used to driving in the snow again. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#traversecity#petoskey#straitsarea #soo #newberryA clipper system will bring our first decent shot at accumulating snowfall for the eastern UP, where 3 to 6 inches…or even a little more in a few localized spots…could fall by Tuesday morning…with the worst conditions expected between 5 and 10pm. FROM Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> I need to post this image again because WOW. I can't recall the last time nearly all of the United States was forecast to be below average. Before anyone gets on the "SEE CLIMATE CHANGE IS FAKE" train... one of these below average maps DOES NOT negate the other 500 above average ones. Trends, folks. Trends. Nothing is a straight line. The warming temperature trend line is full of peaks and valleys with an overall increasing trend. 🙂 #miweather #keweenaw#westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylord#cadillac#traversecityI need to post this image again because WOW. After Thanksgiving, a large portion of the U.S. will likely see below normal temperatures into early December. And of course, there's southern Florida. 🌞
