Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/10
A nice chilly minus 6 this morning at Lake Margrethe, and of course no new snow. Weather is now calling for a small system snow on friday along with all the lake effect that has been predicted but hasnt shown up yet. I took off from the shop here in Frederic yesterday afternoon and took the long loop back to grayling around 679 and 79 and trail was pretty decent. Got on to Lake Margrethe out by Mcintyres Landing and took a partial loop around the lake. Quite a bit of snow on it now compared to the last time I was on it a couple weeks ago. My finger tips were getting cold so after 25 miles I ended up at home and then stayed put.
I drove back up here to get some things in my truck and figured it was time for me to try a set of gaunlets on my sled. I have already had riders in here this morning and pic below is a rider this morning from Genoa Ohio. Also one trailer out back already but I am going to try for another ride this afternoon.
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Additional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
