Munising Area Trail Report – 12/30
TRAIL REPORT, Friday, December 30, 2022 7:30 a.m. WELL THAT DID NOT LAST LONG! Grooming is currently on hold. Wednesday evening temperatures climbed and snow became unworkable. We have lost about 50 percent of the snow with the warm weather over the past two days. Trails are becoming choppy with dirty snow. Temperatures are forecast to drop tonight but warm days still shown for the next 10 days and NO Snowfall. Grooming will be limited once we start back up. We will have a machine out on Trail 422 to Miners Castle today getting the reroute cut in and signed. Please stay alert North of H-58. Also the Wetmore Spur East of Wetmore along M-28 is in rough condition near the big curve with steep backs. Ride with caution through there. Lets hope the forecasts change soon with cold weather and lots of snow! Expect the transition to pure lake-effect tonight, with the lake-effect machine continuing through the rest of this week into this weekend. The first polar front will sweep through the Midwest on Thanksgiving day bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. Lows below zero are expected for some across the north and in the single digits down to I80. Highs this weekend will only be in the single digits and teens for areas down to I80. Dangerous wind chills of -20 degrees or colder are increasingly likely, especially north of I90. The graphic below shows the temperatures on Sunday morning.
Another polar front will move through next week bringing even colder temperatures.
