FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 01/20
A small amount of good news this morning. Yesteday with the whole maybe 2 inches we had fall it was a total slush bowl as it stayed above 32 most of the day. During the night it dropped into the 20s which has firmed everything up. Still in my opinion nothing I would want to ride in but I have seen worse. What little bit of snow we have wont last long on the trails. Looked at the crossing east and west by the high school and no tracks but a few tracks going north on trail 7 out of frederic and at the 612 crossing east of frederic. I did see one sled over at the swamp yesterday and you can see in the pics that he went right thru the slush to the dirt..At least its supposed to stay cool. Not much new snow predicted. I talked to my friend Bob up in Engadine yesterday and he said they had about a new foot of snow so the u.p. might be getting back in shape. I havent checked on any other places up there. Stop in if you are passing thru Frederic……I am 2 miles from exit 264. Will be here till five today and tommorow…..Thanks for checking in. Pete

Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
