FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/09
Another ugly day, at least yesterday was sunny and I did talk to 2 guys that put in 70 miles yesterday around Frederic, but things are still deteriorating around here and it is rain/sleet coming down as I type about 11:30 on thursday morning. On the video I posted a few minutes ago I think I said wednesday morning but it is thursday. Weather is supposed to calm back down again after today with maybe some snow later on. After that its gonna be a quiet weekend and then they say back to the 40s next week……time will tell and anything can happen. I have been saying for alot of years that we only get 4 to 5 decent weekends of riding during the 16 week sled season. So far we are at 2 decent weekends. Pics below are outside the door here just a little bit ago and I did get a picture of the helicopter that they landed on M 72 along with the ambulance blocking the road from a rider that was out there as they were hoping to get the injured sledder to the hospital. Sadly he did not make it. Who knows where we will end up on this poor winter, Blah Blah Blah……Thanks for checking in. Pete
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Additional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
