FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/11
It’s a very sunny 16 degree saturday morning at about 10 a.m. All the slushy snow that has had tracks thru it is pretty rock hard this morning. It will begin to soften up as it is supposed to hit 40s this afternoon. There was a pretty good amount of sleds out and about on Friday and for the most part it was pretty decent. Its all we have so if you were to get any riding at all in you had to just go for it. I think the same thing for today. Have had 3 sleds in this morning already and there were 5 trailers at the m 72 west parking lot with 2 of them having their sleds sitting ther running and ready to ride. If the snow makes it in to sunday that would be good but Super Bowl sunday everyone dissapears early in the day anyways. Weather for this coming next week is dreary again with high 40s on thursday. Hopefully they are wrong. Positive thinking and snow chants are the best thing I can think of. Also if you have a polaris and are missing a hard tunnel bag I have it here at Sledheads for you. A rider just dropped it off to me. I still have the blue bag found on the trail last week too. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
