Cadillac / Baldwin Area Trail Report – Wolf Lake Motel and Resort – 01/27

Hi Everyone, I just got back from a 92 mile ride and most of the trails are in pretty fair condition, with the exception of a 5 mile section of trail 3 south of low Bridge to Laverne road, which was bad. We did loose some snow last Sunday, but we have been getting some LES for the last three days. More LES snow is forecasted for the next 7 days with cold temps to continue. Around this neck of the woods, with LES snow, we may either get an inch or two or a foot or two, you just never know. But with any forecast I’ll believe it when I see it. I doubt that any grooming will continue until it get more snow. The way it sounds we should be back grooming by the end of this week. (If the forecast is correct) One thing that is nice around here, we are in the middle of 6 different grooming clubs, (which we are members of 4), if one isn’t grooming, one of the other Clubs are grooming and we have maps right in the Office.

We are running a Bed and Sled Special. Get a modern well maintained single passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $230 tax included or get a modern well maintained two passenger Snowmobile from 10am until 6pm and one of our small single Motel Rooms, Sunday through Thursday for $260 tax included. Weather permitting.

Also stay two days and get the third free, Sunday through Thursday. No Fridays and Saturdays. You must mention at the time of the reservation and of course this special is dependent on availability and can not be combined with any other offer. Plus we are in the middle of one of the largest ORV trail systems in the state, so if the snow isn’t that great for snowmobiling, bring your ORV up and ride over 200 miles of ORV trails. Don’t worry winter isn’t over for snowmobiling, but a winter ORV ride can be a blast too. If you don’t have a snowmobile or yours is broken, no problem, WE HAVE ON-SITE SNOWMOBILE RENTALS right here at the Resort. There is good snow in the woods, so two tracken and seasonal roads are a blast right now. (Which there are tons of). 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm

Rooms and ON-SITE Snowmobile Rentals are available.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders Snowmobile Club, Benzie/Manistee Snowbirds Snowmobile Club, Irons Area Tourist Association Snowmobile Club, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau Snowmobile Club, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association, which are the local grooming clubs. I can not thank these guys and gals enough, they do a lot of work for free, so we all can enjoy this sport. I would only think that if someone is complaining about a bumpy trail on Saturday afternoon, come to a couple club meetings and see just what these people do. They would never complain again. Thank you again.

Call 231 745 4101 8am until 10pm. See ya soon on the trails.

Newberry Trail Report – Visit Newberry – 01/27

January 27, 2010 1:00p.m.

Please be careful around curves. The weather has cooled down and there is some ice around the curves, and bare spots on the hills. We still have some snow on trails but it is getting thin in spots. We are adjusting the times we go out grooming. We are expecting snow and cold weather to move in starting tonight with 6 -12 inches overnight. We are grooming, although the snow is in granular icy form. Dave in groomer #11 went north on trail # 9, and Louis in groomer # 10 went North on trail #45 to the falls.

Trail #9 south to Hemlock Ridge road (trail 2) has a 0 -4 inch base and is in fair condition.

Trail #9 north is in fair condition. The base is 4 – 6 inches and riders are reporting Fair conditions, please watch for ice and dirt, especially on hills and around curves. There have been reports of some thin spots due to the warm weather.

Trail #45 North is in fair shape with a 4-6 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times. There is very little snow on trail from 500 to the falls.

Trail #2 to Rexton is in fair condition with a 1 -3 inch base.

Trail #473 has about 7 miles of plowed road from Rexton south to Epoufette due to logging in the area. Please watch for trucks and deer in the area. The base is marginal to 3 inches and in fair condition.

Trail #473 Rexton to Trout lake has a 1 -3 inch base and is in fair condition. The groomer did break through the ice and there are some wet spots. We need more snow in this area.

Town trails are open and in poor condition with a 0-2 inch base. The ally is down to dirt.

*Please remember our groomers are out daily to keep the trails in the best shape they can be for your riding pleasure. Please keep a safe distance from the groomer if possible.*

We have updated the Newberry Village trail map. There are just a couple of changes from the last map. Look for our upcoming article in the February issue of the Michigan Snowmobiler Magazine.

THINK MORE SNOW!!!
