Lake Gogebic Trail Report – 01/07

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – 1/7

01-07-20 Gogebic Area Grooming.

Today trail 8 west between Bergland and Wakefield is open and been groomed with two groomers. We will be letting it setup 24 hours and tomorrow night we will be bringing a drag down it. Still use some caution as we pulled up some ice chunks and they’re still on the trail. Some holes may open up in a few spots, but we should get them filled back in by tomorrow night.

With snow in the forecast and colder temperatures. We should have this groomed nightly for the remainder of the season. All other trails are being hit nightly as well. We are still waiting to hear back from the USFS to open 13 south back up. As of now, you still have to ride East Shore road for most of the way.

We would also like to thank our neighboring club to the west, Gogebic Range Trail Authority for offering us help and being on standby incase we both got stuck. This trail swallows a groomer a year, but we still will fight Mother Nature.

As always, ride safe and please stay on the trails…. Trespassing is the #1 for trail closures!!!

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 1/6

W❄️W! Thanks for making all of us that are stuck at work extremely jealous of your day on Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula!

According to D.J. and crew:

“Monday’s don’t have to suck! Calumet you Copper Harbor, didn’t see 1 snowmobile, but passed 3 groomers. I’ve never rode that many miles of untouched trails”

How much do photos like this make you start counting down the days until your next trip or maybe reminiscent about trips in the past? It’s no secret, riding the weekdays can be the best riding ever!

Thanks for sharing your photos and report with us D.J. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Snowmobile trails are in good to very good condition throughout the Keweenaw. Trails are being groomed throughout the day.

Valley Sno Drifters trail from Lake Linden to Dreamland Restaurant & Bar is OPEN!
The Portage Lift Bridge is open to snowmobile traffic.
A reroute on Trail 133 around the Gay stamp sands is now open.
The “Mandan Trail” portion of Trail 134 is open.
Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and the Freda Trail (south of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge) will be closed the entire season for repair.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers. They have the right away.

Please stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for rider’s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.
