ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via NORTH COUNTRY SNOWMOBILE CLUB – 12/07 –
Groomer Mac and Rick groomed trail 11 South Boundary Rd and trail 1 to Lake of the Clouds. Both trails are in good shape, but the trails to get there are in early season conditions. Groomer Mikey packed and cut trail 12 to Greenland. It’s passable but wet… Ride with caution.

First trail report from groomer Mikey for the 2023 season. THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Trail 1 to lake of the clouds is thin from white pine through silver city, there’s are 2 bridges that you can not cross so you have to go around on the road but once you get away from the lake there’s a good foot of snow there is roughly 3" of snow in silver city
Trail 11 south boundary rd is groomed and in excellent shape with 1 to 2 ft of snow we are grooming it daily.

Trail 12 from white pine to Ontonagon has been packed but has lots of wet spots that you can go around. Trail 12 from Ontonagon to Greenland has not been packed yet and is very wet..
Trail 101 has been groomed with 2 ft of snow and in excellent shape to bad its only 4 miles…
Trail 13 from the intersection of 101 to Rockland has lots of snow ( 2 to 3ft) and has been groomed, but still lots of trees and brush close to the trail that we will keep working on daily
Trail 137 rail bed from Ontonagon to Rockland is groomed and in good shape just thin on snow by Ontonagon
It’s early season riding I do not recommend bringing up your family to ride; there are lots of wet spots, thin spots and still lots of bumps and debris that needs to get covered with more snow.. Ride with caution. Thanks from groomer Mikey

FROM Gogebic Area Grooming >> Just to confirm.. We do have enough interest in brushing the access trail this Saturday at 9am Eastern time meeting at the Groomer barn. It's not a long stretch but badly overgrown. Bring boot's as it's usually muddy. If enough people show up and this get's accomplished early our trail 1n to White Pine needs a bunch of signage. So plenty of work for the day. Then on to our next situation. A bridge on 13s or East side of lake Gogebic needs redecked. This trail will not be opened until this bridge is repaired. To say we need help is an understatement. Plans are for bridge repair asap. Repair needs completed before Deer season (Nov. 15th) Rain, snow or shine. It should only take a day but dependent on if we have helper's. The access trail, 1n signage and bridge repair are all accessible by vehicle. Heavy wet snow is expected tonight into Thursday morning as a low pressure system lifts into the Great Lakes. Widespread 8-12 inches are forecast; higher amounts in excess of 1-2 feet are forecast across the high terrain of Marquette and Baraga Counties into Thursday morning. Needless to say it was not what any of us wanted. But like anything else you take the good with the bad. All we can do is hope for more favorable conditions in year's to come. We'd like to thank everyone who patronized our local businesses and to everyone who follows us in our endeavors here in the Western u.p. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Hamilton's North Coast Adventures >> Well, we didn't see or hear any riders around the shop with all the fresh snow we just got, so we had to go out and investigate! As of this morning there is a general 1-2.5' down, more in traditional west wind snowbelt zones. Like da porkies! There is 1.5-2.5' of snow on South Boundary Road yet and its only seen 2 sleds! Zero tracks on 102 (hopefully no one beats me to that today!) We parked at the visitor center sign on SBR. Lake of the Clouds was plowed, not recommended. Our cottage rental is open. Free guide if you stay with us! SBR is a great 30+ mile option to get out and ride. Lakes are not safe, rivers are not safe. Ride smart and have fun!! LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Yes, we have received quite a bit of snow over the past week. Will the groomers be going out? No. There's a lot of slush and running water hidden under all this fresh. With the official end of season coming this Sunday and having only a few segments that are hard pack road grade it's not worth us taking the risk of costing our club more money by getting stuck or whatever else could possibly happen with a few runs. If you choose to ride, ride with extreme caution and be aware a hazard could be around any corner. Also be aware that Mi has closed 13n from Bergland to Rockland. #lakegogebic #westernup

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Hamilton's North Coast Adventures >> Well, we didn't see or hear any riders around the shop with all the fresh snow we just got, so we had to go out and investigate! As of this morning there is a general 1-2.5' down, more in traditional west wind snowbelt zones. Like da porkies! There is 1.5-2.5' of snow on South Boundary Road yet and its only seen 2 sleds! Zero tracks on 102 (hopefully no one beats me to that today!) We parked at the visitor center sign on SBR. Lake of the Clouds was plowed, not recommended. Our cottage rental is open. Free guide if you stay with us! SBR is a great 30+ mile option to get out and ride. Lakes are not safe, rivers are not safe. Ride smart and have fun!! LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Yes, we have received quite a bit of snow over the past week. Will the groomers be going out? No. There's a lot of slush and running water hidden under all this fresh. With the official end of season coming this Sunday and having only a few segments that are hard pack road grade it's not worth us taking the risk of costing our club more money by getting stuck or whatever else could possibly happen with a few runs. If you choose to ride, ride with extreme caution and be aware a hazard could be around any corner. Also be aware that Mi has closed 13n from Bergland to Rockland. #lakegogebic #westernup

Nonetheless, an additional 2 to 4 inches will be possible until then with low visibility in blowing snow. Next chance for widespread precipitation follows Friday night into Saturday.
