Newberry Trail Report – 12/20
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Halfway Lake Cottages, LLC – 12/20 Trail Update: 12/20/2024 TASA trail 9 from Newberry to Pine Stump was groomed Wednesday night. Trail 9 heading south out of town is thin and won’t be groomed until it sees more snow. The gates on trail 45 are still closed at CR 500 and also on the Paradise side. Paradise did make an attempt to open the gates yesterday but with the recent melt there is to much water in the swamp and were forced to leave them shut and turn around. Grand Marais has groomed most of their system and reports are good. Reports from Seney are their trails are a little thin. They can use more snow but rideable. Trail 43 to the north is a little thin in spots until you get up to Fox River Rd. North of that is in good shape. Trail 8 is in great shape. Trail 440 is in good shape.Trail 431 north of the park and ride is in good shape. 43 that goes down to 10 Curves Rd is being plowed because there are loggers down there working. The swamps and lakes aren’t frozen yet so don’t go on them. Trail 431 north out of Seney the swamp is not frozen yet. So don’t use that trail until you get up to the 440-431 split by the park and ride. Temps finally cooled off and we were able to get back out grooming. We just ran up to Pine Stump last night. We also picked up about 4 inches if fresh lake affect in the north. 20 degrees this morning and snowing. I picked up another 4-5" here at my place in the last 24 hrs. Just in case your wondering, we have close to 3' on the ground around here. Here`s whats been going on with the trails......
The traffic has been VERY heavy this weekend. We ran all the trails Friday and Saturday and will run them all again today/tonight. They are all in great shape....snow wise....but do take a beating with the heavy traffic. One thing to remember on the Falls trail #45....stay on the trail! If you ride off the trail in the swampy sections you will sink in the mud. We sunk a groomer a bit in the mud by just gettin off a touch and broke thru the ice and had to call for help to tow it out of the mud! Once we get everything groomed up today/tonight we will take the day off tomorrow and take 2 machines into the swamp south of town and work on that. We are REALLY trying to get that section open to get the traffic off of M-123 coming into town from the south.
So there you have it. Trails are in GREAT shape!!!! Come on UP!!!

Mike groomed the Newberry loop trails, including trails 43, east of Curtis, 457, Helmer spur 43 and 45 to 4 corners (trail 9 intersection).
