Cadillac Area Trail Report – Cadillac Trails – 12/14

FROM THE CADILLAC WINTER PROMOTIONS
Monday: 7:15 p.m.–December 14, 2009

Our Trail Coordinator has requested I pass along a WARNING alerting everyone the ice on ALL lakes is not safe for snowmobiles yet!!!!! He indicated a snowmobile rode all along the south/east side of Lake Cadillac sometime today. There are not any fisherman and/or shanties on the lake yet, let alone sleds. There is some open water still in the middle of the lake. We’ve had some warm weather the last couple of days and it has slowed down the ice making process. It was raining for a bit today.

Trail conditions are marginal at best in some areas especially in the open areas where the sun can get to the trail. We’re still grooming when temperatures are below freezing. No new snow to report today. Can’t see the snow gauge tonight but it is shrinking because of the warmer weather and rain. When I looked this morning it was at 11 inches.,

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 12/14

Greetings Sledders,

We’ve been grooming and riding on the snow that we picked up last Tuesday night thru Thursday and the traffic, although moderate, along with Mother Nature, caused some of the enemy "snirt" to show through primarily on the heavily travelled segments like trail #7 from the south to Frederico. Not un-ride able conditions, just not real pretty at times.

This time of the year the trail gets attacked from two directions. From the top down due to traffic and from the bottom up because the ground isn’t frozen yet and without fresh snow to replenish what we’re riding on and working with it doesn’t take long before snirt is present. Nature of the early season beast.

Strictly out of duty to grooming and journalistic accuracy I rode our entire circuit yesterday with two other groomer jockeys in order to arrive at a plan to continue grooming efforts and to accurately portray conditions in this thing that we do.

The result is that we are grooming and our focus is on bringing the corners in and under control and to pretty much pan the rest. Cut where we need to and be as gentle as possible with the rest.

Just a little shout out to the Indiana Snowmobile Association who I met with at the Ramada Inn Saturday morning in an effort to do some pre-planning for their ride in coming up this Winter. Thanks for choosing Grayling as your destination of choice and WELCOME.

LET’S GET TO IT, IT’S TIRED AND I’M LATE

TRAILS:
I think I pretty much covered this line above. Certainly ride-able but not premium by any means. Early season conditions are to be expected. Off trail is very good.

WEATHER:
We aren’t looking at any major snow events to take place in the immediate future, perhaps some clippers from time to time but nothing to get the panties all knotted up about. The temps look to stay in line with preserving what we have which is the bright side of the forecast. Should know more on this in a report that you can all eagerly await come Thursday evening.

That’s about it for now.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

At Fay’s Motel enjoy direct access to the Grayling Area snowmobile trails.
